A rework/remake of Alter A.I.L.A that changes the game in quite a few fundamental ways: the story is retold and more linear, exploration is now done in a side scrolling perspective, battles are avoidable (not all of them, though) and the battle system was reworked extensively, becoming something closer to Bravely Default rather than the original's versions more standard combat.

Author(s): Neok
Type: Homebrew
Version: 20111304
Date: 13th April, 2011
Status: Fully Playable
Source: https://rpgmaker.net/games/268/

RB's Notes 1: This includes a third party game interpreter that replaces (and is much improved over) the default RPG Maker 2003 game interpreter, allowing for plenty of configuration besides being stable compared to the default. If you are not using Windows, please pick up a version for your OS here.

RB's Notes 2: As mentioned, the branched narrative of the original was reworked. Because there are many differences throughout the experience, I felt both were worth having here. Give them both a try and pick a favorite, I guess.

I feel like half the RPG Maker projects I remember were like "The Thousand Year Saga Episode 0.1 - The first week" and then none of them ever got a sequel. Lots of young teens making RM2K/RM2K3 games with crazy ambitions about making the biggest most epic RPG ever and most of those games never got finished in the first place.
Yeah, that did happen a whole lot. I think in the case of the A.I.L.A games, at least in the sense of gameplay they are complete and enjoyable, although not having Variant does hurt.

Honestly I wish Neok would get help and then polish these for an eventual Steam release that could then fund Variant.

Yeah sadly Neok never got round to it. Makes me sad, too.

becoming something closer to Bravely Default
how so? cause BD is very much one of my favorite games, the screenshots do nothing to remind of BD at all...

About how long are these?
I'd estimate 30 hours or so with extras, but don't quote me.

So what version is better?
Hmm... it depends! if you want a multi-route game with a simpler battle system, go for AA, but if you'd rather have a deeper battle system and streamlined story, then go for AAG.

Sadly, the planned sequel to AAG, Alter Aila Variant never materialized.
