Hello everyone,

I have a personal project: writing a fantasy book called The Compass of Time. This is something I want to do for fun and relaxation. I am still working on many parts of it, including the cover, the story details, and the overall structure of the book. At the same time, I am also improving my English and learning many other things.

Our story begins with a young adventurer. For now, we will call him Fulano, as I have not decided on his final name yet. He dreams of finding the legendary Compass of Time, a magical artifact said to grant three wishes. However, every wish comes with a price, and those who use the compass must make difficult sacrifices.

As the journey unfolds, our hero meets many allies who help him along the way. He also faces dangerous enemies, mysterious creatures, and challenges that test his courage, wisdom, and determination.

The adventure will take him through unknown lands, ancient ruins, and forgotten secrets, all connected to the mystery of the Compass of Time. Along the way, he will discover that some wishes are more dangerous than they seem.

I hope you enjoy this story as I begin writing and developing it.

Can I be a random NPC or side character in this story? I'm thinking real cringy levels... similar to the cube & sword from the new God of War trailer or Myles MacKenzie from Metroid?

Been writing a book for years and I'm just starting to settle for the main cast — I do recommend operating on Jhonen Vasquez's rules: "create a character, take them places, go on walks with them, have conversations with the suckers... and, if you like them afterwards, grant them life!".

I find that to be priceless advise.

The Compass of Time

Chapter 1 – A World Unknown

The story begins with our protagonist arriving home after a walk.

Sora: I'm glad I finally made it home. Now I can prepare my lunch.

He walks toward the refrigerator, but suddenly a massive light appears and starts pulling him toward it.

Sora: What is that light? Is my upstairs neighbor throwing a party or something?

Before he can say anything else, the light completely engulfs him.

Sora wakes up, confused, looking around to figure out where he is.

Sora: Where am I?

Before he can say anything else, he sees an elf girl running for her life from a huge orc.

The unknown elf starts screaming for help.

Elf: Help! Is there any brave hero who can save me? My staff!

Even though he is trembling with fear, Sora immediately runs toward the creature.

Sora: Hey, big guy! Stay away from her, got it? Or you'll have to fight me!

Orc: And what are you going to do, little boy? I can crush you like an insect!

The orc swings his club, trying to smash Sora.

Sora begins thinking to himself.

Sora (thinking): What do I do now? I've always been weak since I was a child. But I've never stopped standing up for what's right and helping others.

Suddenly, Sora feels a strange energy rising from within him.

He raises his hand and launches a fireball at the orc.

The orc staggers back but attacks again.

This time, Sora unleashes a bolt of lightning.

Both the orc and the elf are shocked.

In this world, controlling two elements was believed to be impossible without losing one's mind. An ancient legend spoke of a powerful mage whose heir would one day return.

Sora defeats the orc but collapses from exhaustion.

The elf begins crying as she thanks him for saving her life.

A few minutes later, at an inn.

Sora: Was all of that a dream?

Looking at his wounds, he quickly realizes that this fantasy world is real.

The elf wakes up beside him.

Elf: Thank you for saving me!

She hugs him tightly while crying.

Elf: Let me introduce myself. My name is Elanor. That orc was attacking my home, and I was trying to escape. Thank you, brave hero.

Embarrassed, Sora tries to act serious.

Sora: You're welcome, miss. Can you tell me where I am?

Elanor: Of course, my hero. You are in the Kingdom of Silvanost, near the Elven Forest.

Sora (thinking): Wow... this is just like those isekai stories I used to watch in anime.

Elanor: Then, brave hero, where do you come from?

Sora: I come from a country called Japan, where culture, religion, and innovation exist side by side.

Elanor looks at him with fascination.

Elanor: I would love to see such a place someday.

Sora: But first, let's eat. I'm starving.

The two head downstairs to have a meal together.
